What causes diarrhoea?
Diarrhoea occurs when you are passing stools that are looser, more watery or more frequent than normal. It usually happens when fluid cannot be absorbed from the contents of your bowel or when extra fluid is secreted into your bowel which causes your poo to become more watery. Most people will experience diarrhoea from time to time and it is usually not a sign of something serious, but it can be unpleasant until it passes. It usually takes around a few days to a week for diarrhoea to pass. Depending on the cause, diarrhoea can be both a short-term illness or a symptom of a long-term condition.
How can Dioralyte help to replace water and salts lost when suffering from diarrhoea?
Dioralyte Relief Blackcurrant replaces water and salts that are lost during diarrhoea, to prevent dehydration and to help your stools to become less watery. It contains 4 active ingredients:
- Pre-cooked rice powder
- Sodium citrate
- Sodium chloride
- Potassium chloride
These ingredients work together to replace water and salts whilst helping to reduce symptoms of diarrhoea. The sachets are easy to administer - simply mix into water and drink. The delicious blackcurrant flavour makes it pleasant to take, so is perfect for the elderly or children.
